SHIFT UP recently announced that Stellar Blade will release “uncensored” in all regions, including Japan. The game has garnered a lot of attention ahead of its release and now with the latest announcement it has sparked some controversy.

An Electronic Arts Japan executive isn’t happy with the news. He criticized Japanese video game ratings board for approving the PS5 exclusive Stellar Blade to be released uncensored whereas EA’s Dead Space was banned in Japan.
「Stellar Blade」 offers the same uncensored version in all countries, including the Japanese version.

“Uncensored” here in this context refers to more than just Eve’s sexy skin suit, it also has to do with gore and violence present in the game. As we saw in Stellar Blade’s demo which is nearly an hour and a half long, the game contains gory items like cross-sectioned severed limbs which are not censored at all.

Electronic Arts Japan’s GM Shaun Noguchi shared his frustrations on X wondering why EA’s Dead Space was rejected by CERO, the Japanese ratings board when the two games have similar gory content.
“What’s going on CERO (Japan’s rating organization)? The Stellar Blade’s demo was really fun and absolutely action-packed. However, CERO, you denied our Dead Space a rating because it included cross-sections of severed body parts and internal organs, but here we have both cross-sections and insides on display passed off with a CERO D rating. I find this hard to accept…”

Stellar Blade attracted a lot of attention even before the game’s demo was released and now it is being talked about even more. Also recently, NieR: Automata’s director Yoko Taro praised Stellar Blade calling it better than his own iconic game.
